Downregulation of miR‐491‐5p promotes gastric cancer metastasis by regulating SNAIL and FGFR4

Abstract: Gastric cancer (GC) is among the most fatal cancers in China. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are versatile regulators during GC development and progression. miR‐491‐5p has been demonstrated to act as a tumor suppressor in several types of cancer. However, the role of miR‐491‐5p in GC metastasis remains unknown. Here, we found that miR‐491‐5p was significantly decreased in GC tissues compared with adjacent non‐cancerous tissues, and low miR‐491‐5p level was associated with large tumor size. Overexpression of miR‐491‐5p sig… Show more

“…In addition, high expression of the chemokine family of proteins, such as GRB2 and JAK3, involved in proliferation, migration, and invasion of cancers, was found (12,13). Moreover, FGFR4, reported to be associated with epithelialmesenchymal transition (EMT) and metastasis, was also shown to be significant in the PPI network (14,15). The up-regulated and down-regulated genes had complex interactions with other genes in the signaling network (Figure 4).…”

“…According to the search results of star-Base (http://starb ase.sysu.edu.cn), total of 23 miRNAs was screened out as downstream candidates of LBX2-AS1 (Additional file 3: Table S1). Among those candidates, miR-491-5p has been revealed to suppress gastric carcinogenesis by previous researches [17,18]. Therefore, we chose miR-491-5p to continue our study.…”

“…Wang et al demonstrates that over-expression of miR-217 inhibits gastric cancer cell proliferation, invasion and promotes apoptosis via regulating GPC5, which acts as a potential therapeutic target [20]. Besides, other miRNAs, for instance, miR-376c-3p [21], miR-133b [22], miR-99b-5p and miR-203a-3p [23], miR-491-5p [24], miR-143 [25] are intensively involved in the regulation of the development and progression of gastric cancer. Thus miRNAs is closely associated with the occurrence and development of gastric cancer.…”
