Downregulation of MiR-30a is Associated with Poor Prognosis in Lung Cancer

Abstract: BackgroundRecent reports have suggested that miR-30a plays a tumor-suppressive role in various cancers. However, miR-30a has not been completely studied in non-small lung cancer (NSCLC). Thus, the aim of the present study was to clarify the association between the expression of miR-30a and the clinicopathological features in NSCLC patients.Material/MethodsTotal RNA of miR-30a was extracted from 125 pairs of NSCLC patients (male 75, female 50) and their matching normal tissues. The miR-30a level was detected by… Show more

“…MiRNAs can regulate several biological processes (BPs), including growth, differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis necrosis, and invasion by targeting sets of messenger RNAs. [18][19][20][21] Reports have demonstrated that miRNAs play a potentially significant role in identifying markers for the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment strategies for numerous human cancers, including oral cancer, 22 breast cancer, 23 pancreatic cancer, 24 testicular cancer, 25 and lung cancer, [26][27][28][29][30][31] among others.…”

“…Furthermore, miR-30a expression decreased in patients with shorter overall survival and disease-free survival time in patients with NSCLC [19] and urothelial carcinoma of bladder [76], consistent with the lower expression of miR-30a in tumor tissues compared to their non-tumor lung tissues. In ovarian papillary serous carcinoma, miR-30a was remarkably negatively related with the grade, and was predicted to be an early detection and therapeutic approach, especially in high-grade cases [74].…”

“…To data, miRNA30a has been demonstrated to be involved in development of several types of tumors [19-21]. This article reviews the current research of the physiology of miR-30a with a focus on its function in different types of cancers.…”

“…Next-generation sequencing and expression analysis of miRNAs in PTC and contralateral normal thyroid tissue specimens revealed miR-30a-3p to be among the most abundantly downregulated miRNAs in PTC [32]. Significantly decreased level of miR-30a-3p in tumor tissue compared to corresponding non-tumor tissue was also found in lung carcinoma [7,8,10,26], esophageal carcinoma [27], gastric cancer [28], colorectal cancer [14] and liver cancer [18].…”

“…One of the microRNAs with potential tumor suppressor activity that is frequently found to be deregulated and associated with aggressive tumor features and progression in various human cancers is miR-30a-3p. So far, downregulated expression of this member of the miR-30 family has been reported in lung cancer [7][8][9][10], breast cancer [11][12][13], colorectal cancer [14], bladder cancer [15], ovarian cancer [16], endometrial cancer [17], hepatocellular carcinoma [18], hematologic malignancies [19] and others.…”
