Downregulation of ERp57 expression is associated with poor prognosis in early-stage cervical cancer

Abstract: Low ERp57 expression independently predicts a poor outcome for patients with cervical cancer, supporting the notion that ERp57 may be a promising novel cancer target.

“…The role of PDIA3 in the development and progression of human cancer has been suggested previously. Downregulation of the expression of PDIA3 is associated with a poor prognosis in early-stage cervical cancer (21). In addition, PDIA3 was found to contribute to epidermal growth factor receptor signaling and internalization in breast cancer cells (22).…”

“…Increased PDIA3 expression was associated with a poor prognosis in adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix (23). However, its downregulation was associated with poor outcomes in squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix (24), and loss of expression of PDIA3 is correlated with more aggressive forms of gastric cancer (25). Therefore, although PDIA3 is expressed in various types of cancer, the pathogenetic role of PDIA3 may vary among various types of human cancer, depending on the primary organs affected and the histology of the cancer.…”

“…Interestingly, like CRT, the additional cellular role of CNX in ER stress has been implicated in cancer, with an increase in CNX expression linked with poor prognosis in colorectal cancer, and shown to be a diagnostic marker in lung cancer . The reduced expression of the thiol oxidoreductase, ERp57, that aids the formation of disulphide bonds to form the PLC, was shown to be an independent predictor of overall survival in cervical carcinoma and both the reduction and loss of ERp57 are correlated with progression of gastric cancer …”
