Double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in preoperative Borrmann classification of advanced gastric carcinoma: comparison with histopathology

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy of double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (DCEUS) for assessing the Borrmann classification of advanced gastric carcinoma (AGC) preoperatively. Three hundred twenty nine patients with proved AGC were enrolled. DCEUS (intravenous microbubbles combined with combined with oral contrast-enhanced ultrasound) was performed preoperatively. The diagnostic accuracy of DCEUS in determining Borrmann classification was compared with postoperative pathological fin… Show more

“…Studies conducted on the kidney, liver, thyroid 9 and other organs 10 11 have demonstrated that CEUS provides a useful, noninvasive and reproducible tool for evaluating the vascularity of lesions. In this study, we qualitatively compared the CEUS characteristics of four renal tumor histotypes (CCRCC, LMRCC, UCRP, AML) on CEUS and found CCRCC is significantly different from other three histotypes on all the six indices (peak intensity, the homogeneity, the time of wash-in, peak, clearance and presence of pseudocapsule) ( Fig.…”

“…Pan et al showed an overall accuracy of 91.49% of CEUS in the diagnosis and staging of gastric tumors using Bormann criteria for advanced gastric cancer [15]. Cui et al compared the accuracy of CEUS and CT in detecting gastric tumors.…”

“…Oral contrast plus contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (OC+CEUS) combines intravenous microbubbles with oral contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, and was designed to serve as a novel mode of detecting stomach diseases such as GC in China (14,15). However, no published study has compared the perfusion parameters of GC and GST by using OC+CEUS.…”
