Double‐chambered left ventricle: A rare case in a child

Abstract: Double-chambered left ventricle (DCLV) is an extremely rare congenital heart disease. In this condition, the left ventricle (LV) is divided into the main left ventricular chamber (MLVC) and the accessory chamber (AC) by a septum or muscle fiber with abnormal proliferation. The MLVC and AC chambers are connected to each other and can be classified into different types on the basis of their positions. Many researchers have different opinions regarding this disease. 1 | C A S E PRE S ENTATI ONA boy was diagnosed … Show more

“…A diverticulum is a rare cardiac malformation defined by a sac-like out-pouching with normal contractility arising from the wall of the left ventricle. Unlike abnormal muscle bundle-associated ventricular aneurysm, all three layers of the heart are present in the myocardial portion of a diverticulum [8]. Meanwhile, the diverticulum is always located in the apical muscular and posterior-inferior wall, which is not separated by an abnormal structure.…”

“…Compared to a double-chambered RV, a DCLV is a rare anomaly with only very few reported cases in which the LV is partially divided into inlet and outlet portions [1,2,6]. It is a true division of the LV cavity as a result of the accessory septum, or muscle bundles [7].…”

“…A double-chambered left ventricle (DCLV) constitutes an extremely rare congenital malformation, and compared with a double right ventricle (RV), is a more common pathology [1][2][3][4]. A combination of these two in a patient has also been described, although even rarer [5].…”

“…DCLV is generally found incidentally and does not lead to serious outcomes . The timing and degree of clinical symptoms of DCLV are related to the area of the access between the two chambers and the cardiac function of the patient . If there is no obstruct or obvious pressure difference between the two chambers and the patients have no obvious symptoms and have a good prognosis.…”
