Double beamforming processing in a seismic prospecting context

Abstract: The use of larger numbers of sensors is becoming more common at the large, continental scale for deep-structure imaging in seismology, and at a smaller scale with exploration geophysics objectives. Seismic arrays require array processing from which new types of observables contribute to a better understanding of the wave propagation complexity. From among these array processing techniques, this study focuses on a way to select and identify different phases between two source-receiver arrays based on the double… Show more

“…and its recent use has provided successful results for multipath shallow water tomography [Roux et al, 2008[Roux et al, , 2011a. DBF can identify direct and reflected surface/body waves [De Cacqueray et al, 2011;Boué et al, 2013]. Applying DBF processing to USArray, Boué et al [2014] compensated for the unfavorable noise direction, to improve the accuracy of inverted velocities in ambient noise surface wave tomography.…”

“…The DBF approach, which is also known as double array stacking, is a double slant-stack processing of two distinct source and receiver arrays [Krüger et al, 1993;Rost and Thomas, 2002;Roux et al, 2008, Boué et al, 2013. In the case of the cross-correlation data set, this method can be generalized to two-receiver arrays ( Figure 2).…”
