With the gradual development of immunotherapy for thyroid cancer, relevant research has increased. To better understand the current situation, development trend, evolution process, and research hotspots of this field, we conducted this comprehensive bibliometrics visual analysis. We retrieved papers published from 1980 to 2022 from Web of Science Core Collection on January 31, 2023. CiteSpace, Pajek, VOSviewer, R-Bibliometrix, and Scimago Graphics are the tools to perform the analysis. Analysis methods mainly include co-occurrence analysis and cluster analysis. Analysis objects are countries or regions, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords, etc. In terms of publication number, the recent decade has witnessed rapid growth. USA was the most prolific country and has the most influence in the cooperation team. Sweden took the lead in focus on this research field and lasted for 21 years. Garden State Cancer Center was released most papers (28). INSERM played a major role in institutional cooperation. Goldenberg DM published the most papers (48), with H-Index 25 and G-Index 43. Journal of Nuclear Medicine has the greatest papers published (41). The average impactor factor of the top 10 journals is 7.2058. The top keywords with high burst strength are: radioimmunotherapy (14.85), monoclonal antibody (13.78), non hodgkins lymphoma (12.54). The research field of immunotherapy for thyroid cancer will be further developed. This study provides a valuable reference for future research in the field.

Purpose of review The development of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) immunotherapy has revolutionized the treatment of several cancers. Malignancies are one of the leading causes of death in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs). Although ICI treatment may be an effective option in treating malignancies in SOTRs, concerns about triggering allograft rejection have been raised in this population. Herein, we will review currently available data regarding patients, allograft and malignancy outcomes in SOTRs who received ICI therapy. Recent findings Cancer incidence is three to five-fold higher among SOTRs, compared with the general population. Skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer after transplant, followed by kidney cancer, lymphoma and Kaposi sarcoma. There are no large prospective studies evaluating ICI therapy's use for treating cancers in SOTRs. However, retrospective studies have shown that ICI treatment may be associated with improved malignancy outcomes and overall survival (OS). However, the risk of allograft rejection is high (around 40%) of whom about half lose their allograft. Maintaining higher levels of immunosuppression may be associated with a lower risk of allograft rejection, but potentially worse malignancy outcomes. Summary Although ICI treatment may be associated with improved patient and malignancy outcomes, the risk of allograft rejection and loss are high. Prospective studies are needed to confirm the benefits of ICI therapy in SOTRs and to evaluate the optimal immunosuppression regimen modifications, if any, to improve patient, malignancy and allograft outcomes in transplant recipients.

PD-1 or the programmed cell death protein 1 plays a major role in eliciting the immune checkpoint response of T cells. They are the inhibitory receptors induced in activated T cells. The application of these receptors earns a great interest to investigate, in-depth, their mechanism of action and therapeutic success. The US FDA has successfully approved three categories of immune checkpoint inhibitors. These are PD-1 inhibitors (Nivolumab, Pembrolizumab, and Cemiplimab), PDL-1 inhibitors (Atezolimumab, Durvalumab and, Avelumab), and CTLA-4 inhibitor (Ipilimumab). But still there lie several limitations in using this mode of treatment. Unlikely, not all patients respond well to these drugs. Apart from these, anti PD-1 monoclonal antibody showed its miraculous activity in treating cancer. It showed a hundred percent cure in patients with colorectal cancer without any kind of major side effects following the treatment procedure. Anti PD-1 monoclonal antibody (Dostarlimab) has shown promising results in endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, melanoma, head and neck cancer, and breast cancer therapy. The current review focuses on the literature regarding the mechanism of action of immune checkpoint inhibitors, their role in cancer treatment.
