The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen doses applied via fertigation and associated with different types of crop establishment fertilization on growth and biomass of radish. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse of the Academic Unit of Agricultural Engineering, Federal University of Campina Grande, from April to May 2014. Treatments consisted of five doses of nitrogen fertilizer applied by fertigation (0, 0.7, 1.4, 2.1 and 2.8g per pot) and three types of crop establishment fertilization (humus 2:2; NPK and control), arranged in a 5 x 3 factor design with four repetitions. The 15 treatments were arranged in 60 plots. The nitrogen source used in the study was urea, divided in three applications: the first application was carried out eight days after transplanting, the second, on day 15, and the third, on day 22. The crop establishment fertilization significantly influenced the growth variables and plant mass of the radish on day 35 after transplanting. The highest values of the variables (number of leaves, plant height, bulb diameter, leaf area, fresh mass of the aerial part, dry mass of the aerial part and root/aerial part were observed in the treatment with humus on day 35 after transplanting. The dose of 2.8g nitrogen per pot corresponding to 6.22g of urea per plant provided the highest yield for the variable number of leafs, leaf area and root length on day 35 after transplanting.

Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos de diferentes lâminas de irrigação e adubação com nitrogênio no desempenho produtivo da cultura do rabanete. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5 x 4, referentes a cinco lâminas de irrigação baseadas na ETc (L50%; L75%; L100%; L125% e L150%) e quatro doses de nitrogênio (0,19; 0,29; 0,38 e 0,48 g N vaso-1), com 4 repetições. Conduziu-se o experimento em vasos utilizando-se como substrato um Argissolo Vermelho Amarelo. Os tratamentos iniciaram-se no 8º dia após o plantio (DAP), parcelandose a adubação em três vezes, aos 8, 16 e 24 DAP. Realizou-se a colheita na medida em que as raízes tuberosas atingiram ponto de colheita. As variáveis analisadas foram massa fresca da parte aérea (MFPA), massa fresca da raiz tuberosa (MFRT), diâmetro da raiz tuberosa (DRT) e produtividade total (PT) da cultura do rabanete. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância (teste F) a 5% de significância e, apresentando efeito significativo para as doses, foram realizadas análises de regressão. Verificou-se que a irrigação que resultou em maior incremento na produtividade do rabanete foi a lâmina correspondente a 111,75 % da ETc. Observou-se também que a aplicação de uma dose de 41,8 kg ha-1 proporcionou o melhor desempenho da raiz tuberosa do rabanete.

Imbalanced nutrient application has resulted in low productivity and nutrient use efficiency (NUE) for radish (Raphanus sativus L.) production in China. This study aims to introduce a science‐based, cost‐effective, and reliable nutrient management approach to resolve the problem. A radish database from 247 published and unpublished studies with on‐farm experiments from 2000 to 2017 in the main radish‐producing regions in China was established to develop Nutrient Expert (NE) system for radish nutrient management and field experiments were conducted to evaluate its feasibility. The relationships among indigenous soil nutrient supply, yield response (YR), agronomic efficiency (AE), and relative yield were investigated for the establishment of NE system. Results showed that the average indigenous supply of N, P, and K in soil was 118.7, 28.2, and 208.8 kg ha–1, respectively. The mean YR of radish to N, P, and K was 17.7, 10.4, and 10.3 t ha–1, respectively; while the AE of them was 104.7, 105.0, and 69.5 kg kg–1. Significantly negative exponential relationship between YR and indigenous nutrient supply and linear correlation between YR and relative yield were observed. Results demonstrated a quadratic curve relationship between YR and AE. The NE system for radish was developed based on YR and AE, and field experiments validified that NE system significantly enhanced fleshy root yield of radish, profitability, and NUE over those obtained under farmers’ practices (FP). The NE system for radish demonstrated a promising method and will assist Chinese radish growers in achieving effective fertilizer use and higher yield goals. Core Ideas Soil indigenous nutrient supply, yield response, and agronomic efficiency were analyzed in radish‐producing regions. The relationships among yield response, indigenous nutrient supply, and agronomic efficiency were determined. Nutrient Expert for radish was first established based on yield response and agronomic efficiency.
