Dose Response Relationships Beween Chromosome Damage and Absorbed Radiation

Abstract: SUMMARY Chromosome aberration analysis provides a biological method of assessing absorbed radiation dose. This paper describes the types of aberration brought about in the chromosomes of lymphocytes by radiation‐induced chromosomal breaks, how they can be displayed and related to IN VITRO radiation exposure of blood lymphocyte cultures. A calibration chart incorporating these IN VITRO dose response relationships enables the IN VIVO exposure of individuals during radiotherapy to be compared with the dose giving… Show more

“…In 1968 the laboratory set out its cytogenetic techniques for radiobiological procedures (Barnes and llbery). Since then we have reported our work on the form and function of the lymphocyte as a radiation dosimeter (Barnes et al,197 1 ), concerning blood lymphocyte replicating ability as a measurement of radiation dosage (Ilbery et al, 1971, Chee et nl., 1974, and for the determination of dose response relationships between chromosome damage and absorbed radiation (Chee and Ilbery, 1975 ) .…”
