Dose Optimization of Ovatide Hormone for Induced Breeding of Freshwater Gang Magur, Hemibagrus Menoda (Hamilton, 1822)

Abstract: An experiment on induced breeding of gang magur, Hemibagrus menoda (Hamilton, 1822) using Ovatide hormone was carried out at in the Field Laboratory Complex of Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. This study consists of three treatments each with three replications. The objective of the experiment was to find out the effective dose of Ovatide hormone for induced breeding. A total number of 54 brood fish were used for the experiment among which 36 were male and 18 were female. B… Show more

“…Similar results documented in different studies indicating enhanced fecundity and higher egg quality with increasing female brood age, such as in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus, 1758, common carp Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758 [8,9]. and Indian major carp Labeo rohita Hamilton, 1822 [10]. Along with the age of broods, hormonal doses have a critical influence in the induced breeding of most fishes.…”

“…The M. pancalus was injected with two doses of ovaprim @0.25 and 0.50 ml/kg body weight of female and 0.5 ml/kg body weight of male observed the 100% spawning rate, 75% fertilization rate and 55% hatching rate (Hasan et al, 2016). The optimum dose of Ovatide hormone for induced breeding of Hemibagrus menoda is 2.5 and 5 ml/kg body weight of male and female brood sh respectively with ovulation rate of 100%, fertilization rate of 97%, hatching rate of 95% and survival rate of 85% (Hasan et al, 2021).…”

“…Fish production and marketing is the integral part for the socio-economic development of fishermen community in the agro-based country like Bangladesh (Haque et al, 2021). To protect fish species and expand fish output for future generations, researchers should look at conservation and aquaculture production tactics that could help fishermen make a living (Hasan et al, 2021;Bithy et al, 2012;Islam et al, 2011). Fishers are one of the most susceptible communities in Bangladesh and most of them are live from hand to mouth (Ali et al, 2014).…”
