Dose–effect relationships of nucleoplasmic bridges and complex nuclear anomalies in human peripheral lymphocytes exposed to60Co γ-rays at a relatively low dose

Abstract: The dose effect between nucleoplasmic bridges (NPB) and relatively low doses of ionising radiation remains unknown. Accordingly, this study investigated the NPB frequencies in human peripheral blood lymphocytes exposed to low-dose (60)Co γ-rays. Complex anomalies, including fused nuclei (FUS), horse-shoe nuclei (HS) and circular nuclei (CIR), which possibly originated from multiple NPBs, were also scored. Human peripheral blood samples were collected from three healthy males and irradiated with 0-1 and 0-0.4 G… Show more

“…Apart from these goals, the method also would allow compatibility with image analysis, through manual or automatic acquisition, further expanding its capabilities. Metaphases, and mainly nucleoplasmic bridges, could be observed clearly in this study, and their detection could be profitably used in other studies as related by another study (Tian et al 2016).…”

“…However, the DCA technique needs well-trained manpower and is time-consuming which has proved to be the main hindrance in its application [22][23][24]. In the case of MN, the analysis is in uenced by various factors and induced by several agents, thus not radiation speci c [34][35][36][37]. It is also important to record that dicentric aberrations are hardly induced by low radiation doses thus putting an additional constraint on the popular DCA method [38][39][40][41].…”

“…MN frequencies have increased by 23.99%, and NPB and NBUD due to this stimulant, showing that diesel engine exhaust level is related to this biomarker frequencies. At the same time, Tian et al [31] studied the relationship between NPB and a relatively low dose of 60 Co γ-rays in human peripheral blood lymphocytes. The lowest observable radiation doses of MN were 0.08, whereas and NPB were 0.08 Gy.…”
