A redescription of Pterygosoma aegyptiaca Mostafa (Acari: Prostigmata: Pterygosomatidae), a little known ectoparasitic mite of spiny-tailed lizards (Squamata: Agamidae), with new morphological data for the Pterygosomatidae

“…The leg setae are notated according to the system devised for acariform mites by Grandjean (1940) and applied to other prostigmatid families such as the Tuckerellidae (QuirosGonzalez & Baker 1984), Tarsonemidae (Lindquist 1986) and Eupodidae (Baker 1990). This system was chosen over that of Grandjean (1944) which has been used for Pterygosoma and other pterygosomatids by some authors, e.g., Bochkov and OConnor (2006), Paredes-León et al (2012), Fajfer (2013a) and Quiroz-Gutiérrez et al (2015). This preference is because the application of a single nomenclatorial system to the Acariformes will simplify the comparison of setae on homologous palp-and podomeres within the superorder.…”
