“…Clinical presentation of ovarian torsion is unclear, leading to diagnostic difficulty. Doppler sonographic findings are often helpful in making a diagnosis but are not always accurate [25]. Since the ischemia will result in necrosis of the ovary in the absence of treatment, ovarian torsion should immediately be treated surgically [18].…”

“…To avoid complications and preserve future fertility, OT should be suspected at an early stage (Galinier et al, 2008). The preoperative findings of ovarian blood flow on Doppler sonography in cases with surgically proven adnexal torsion may be helpful in prediction of OT, but the accuracy remains low (Nizar et al, 2009). In routine practice, tends to remove adnexa to prevent embolism.…”

“…The affected ovary may appear as a solid mass with hypo‐ and hyperechoic areas in keeping with haemorrhage and necrosis (Figure ). The pedicle that is twisted may be seen as a ‘whirlpool’ that is visible both in grey scale and on colour Doppler and has been shown to increase the diagnostic sensitivity for torsion . Of the above appearances, unilateral ovarian enlargement and oedema appears to be the most consistent finding in the literature.…”

“…Abnormal Doppler signals in the ovarian vessels have been identified in up to 100% of cases of adnexal torsion; however, a complete absence of perfusion may be a relatively late event, so the presence of flow within the ovary does not exclude the diagnosis of torsion . Coiling of the ovarian vessels may be seen in early or subacute cases (Figure ) .…”
