Doppler and angular spreads estimation using the derivatives of the cross-correlation functions

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new method to simultaneously estimate the maximum Doppler Spread (DS), the mean Angle of Arrival (AoA) and the Angular Spread (AS). To this end, the derivatives of the cross-correlation functions (DCCF) of the received signal at a Uniform Linear Array (ULA) are exploited. The Rayleigh channel model where the received signal AoAs follow a Gaussian angular distribution is considered. Simulation results show that, the proposed approach offers better accuracy for maximum DS than the alg… Show more

“…In this work, we consider the Laplacian angular distribution for the incoming AoAs. Other distribution can be applied as Gaussian [18] or Uniform ones, and will yield to different algorithms with closed form expressions. Using the first assumption, we linearize the AoAs and knowing that…”

“…In this work, our objective is to estimate simultaneously the maximum DS, the mean AoA and the AS using a single algorithm. In [36], the three parameters were simultaneously estimated for a SIMO configuration and only the Gaussian angular distribution was considered. To the best of our knowledge, there is no joint estimator in the literature for the three desired parameters in MIMO systems.…”
