DOPO‐Based Phosphorus‐Containing Methacrylic (Co)Polymers: Glass Transition Temperature Investigation

Abstract: flame retardant, DOPO is also attractive because PH bond can be easily modified into PN, PO, or PC bonds, leading to improved thermal stability. [5][6][7][9][10][11][12] DOPO has been successfully used as an additive in many polymers (additive strategy) such as epoxy resins, [13,14] polyurethane, [9] acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers, [15] polyamide, [16] and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). [17] Alternatively, DOPO-based monomers have been used to prepare matrices with chemically bound flame-ret… Show more

“…These two sets of data were basically consistent, suggesting that the two monomers were copolymerized randomly and thus, that the T g values of the polymers could be controlled by regulating the ratio of the two bisphenols. 35,36 Thermal decomposition mechanism of the aromatic polyester copolymers…”

“…However, the OPE-2St thermoset cannot meet the flame retardancy requirement. On the other hand, inherent flame-retardant properties of phosphorous-based thermosets are widely reported. Among these, 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-oxide (DOPO)-derived polymers have provided an advantage in the flame-retardant behavior. ,, DOPO is very reactive to both nucleophiles and electrophiles and possesses good thermal stability . It is well-understood that phosphorous-based thermosets provide both condensed (char promotion) and gas (radical capture) phase flame retardancy .…”
