“…First findings in copulating rats showed that MPOA D 1 -and D 2 -like receptors have opposite roles in the control of ejaculation. The former facilitates erectile mechanisms and enhances the rate of copulation, whereas the latter facilitates ejaculation (Hull et al, 1989;Markowski et al, 1994). It was thus suggested that MPOA D 1 -and D 2 -like receptor influences are related to the level of dopamine stimulation, with an evolution from the copulatory phase (mediated by D 1 receptors) to the ejaculatory phase (mediated by D 2 -like receptors) as dopamine concentration increases in this area (Hull et al, 1992).…”

“…Several studies have reported that systemic and intra-MPOA administration of apomorphine, a nonselective agonist of D1 and D2-like receptors, facilitates male ejaculatory behavior (Bitran et al, 1989;Hull et al, 1989). In addition, systemic or intra-MPOA injections of the D2-like agonists quinelorane and haloperidol have been shown to lower the threshold for ejaculation (Foreman and Hall, 1987;Hull et al, 1989;Pfaus and Phillips, 1991).…”

“…These females were brought into behavioral estrus by a subcutaneous (sc) priming injection of 2 µg of estradiol benzoate (EB) in sesame oil 48 hr before receiving 100 µg of progesterone (sc). We evaluated male sexual behavior by examining the number of mounts, intromissions, ejaculations, ejaculation latencies (in seconds) and grooming frequencies in a 30-min test period with each sexually receptive female as per established procedures (16). Sexual behavior in the presence of sexually receptive (estrogen and progesterone primed) ovariectomized rats housed in wire cages was also evaluated for adult male proven breeders separately housed on wood chips (Sani-Chips) or ground corncob bedding for 7-10 days before exposure to the females.…”
