“…Health concerns and the social health expenditure have been emphasized in economics and social sciences literature, such as Viscusi and Hamilton (1999). This also addresses the highlights in Taylor and Xiao (2019), which indicates that the expensive drugs to treat diseases can lead to a heavy burden on the developing economies’ public health systems. “…conditions under which the government should subsidize consumers only, manufacturers only, or both, motivated by a home appliance subsidy program in China. Taylor and Xiao (2019) analyze the impact of a distribution channel and consumer awareness on the donor's optimal subsidy design. Bai et al (2021) study government subsidy programs that incentivize consumer trade-ins of used products.…”

“…Levi et al (2019) study the problem a central planner who must allocate its budget to different food policy interventions in order to maximize fruit and vegetable consumption for a low‐income consumer. This work is related to the broader OR literature on optimal subsidies that has been applied to a variety of humanitarian contexts (e.g., Taylor and Xiao (2019), Levi et al (2016), Yu et al (2018), Alizamir et al (2016)). There are many future research opportunities in food policy intervention optimization.…”
