Dominance of Bacillus species in the wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) rhizosphere and their plant growth promoting potential under salt stress conditions

Abstract: Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a major source of calorific intake in its various forms and is considered one of the most important staple foods. Improved wheat productivity can contribute substantially to addressing food security in the coming decades. Soil salinity is the most serious limiting factor in crop production and fertilizer use efficiency. In this study, 11 bacteria were isolated from wheat rhizosphere and examined for salt tolerance ability. WGT1, WGT2, WGT3, WGT6, WGT8, and WGT11 were able to tol… Show more

“…Biofilm formation by bacterial isolates was tested according to Zahra et al (2023) , by using a microtiter plate. Bacterial isolates were grown up to an optical density (OD 600 nm ) of 2 in YEM broth medium, supplemented with 2% NaCl (w/v).…”

“…Diverse members of Bacillus are involved in ecosystem functions including the degradation of soil organic matter, nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle, phosphorus solubilization, and eco-remediation of pollutants [ 8 ]. They also jointly function as plant growth promoters to alleviate abiotic stress or suppress plant pathogens [ 30 32 ]. In such scenarios, merely identifying individual taxa as Bacillus rather than individual species be insufficient for both basic science and potential microbiome engineering.…”
