Domestic animal proteomics in the 21st century: A global retrospective and viewpoint analysis

Abstract: Animal production and health are of significant economic importance, particularly regarding the world food supply. Animal and veterinary sciences have evolved immensely in the past six decades, particularly in genetics, nutrition, housing, management and health. To address major challenges such as those posed by climate change or metabolic disorders, it is of utmost importance to use state-of-the-art research tools. Proteomics and the other post-genomic tools (transcriptomics or metabolomics) are among them. P… Show more

“…To select such breeds, novel technologies are available, allowing for the identification of biomarkers and molecular patterns related to SWL resilience. Several studies using omics have been conducted over recent years [ 78 ]. Here, we will focus on two examples where omics were used to study SWL: meat-producing sheep in Australia and dairy-goat production in the Canary Islands.…”

“…Meanwhile, genomics targets for genome engineering are possible by screening the differential expression using high throughput proteomics or genomics techniques [ 85 , 86 , 87 , 88 ]. In this regard, the generation of collective knowledge across the globe allows one to share and build the more efficient farm animals breeds [ 89 ].…”

“…In addition to providing nutrition, domestic animals also generate income for small-scale farmers in the forms of meat, eggs, milk, etc. [ 9 , 10 ]. Over the past decade, animal husbandry has shown much closer relationships with several other fields.…”
