Domestic and International Shipping of Biospecimens

Abstract: Summary The packaging and shipment of biospecimens is a multistep process for which a distinct set of regulations needs to be followed, depending on whether a biospecimen is shipped domestically or internationally and whether the shipment contains hazardous materials. Shipments may be delayed if these regulations are not followed. Once learned, the process is straightforward. Major principles include double or triple packaging, adequate absorbent material, appropriate coolant, accurate labeling and complete do… Show more

“…Shipping of bacterial cultures is subject to national (e.g., Department of Transportation in USA) and international (e.g., International Air Transport Association) regulations and should be performed by trained individuals [ 29 ]. Most uropathogens are characterized as Category B, and additional requirements often include specific packaging and labeling [ 30 ]. Veterinarians who choose to perform POC culture testing should make sure all appropriate biosafety measures are in place to do so.…”

“…Транспортировка биообразцов на дальние расстояния представляет собой сложный процесс, требующий соблюдения особых условий хранения материала: многослойная герметичная упаковка, маркировка, поддержание температурного режима [45]. Наиболее распространенный способ хранения биоматериалов при транспортировке -криоконсервация, использо-вание низких температур для сохранения биологической ценности образцов.…”

“…Because every degree matters, defining appropriate transport conditions is mandatory. Operational and performance qualification are essential parts of quality assurance through equipment validation steps, but there are no standards for the suitability of transport conditions for sensitive products . A variety of different parcels are now available to transport HBS at constant optimal temperature.…”
