Domain-wall and reverse-domain superconducting states of a Pb thin-film bridge on a ferromagnetic BaFe12O19single crystal

Abstract: We report on imaging of the nonuniform superconducting states in a Pb thin-film bridge on top of a ferromagnetic BaFe 12 O 19 single crystal with a single straight domain wall along the center of the bridge by low-temperature scanning laser microscopy. We have visualized domain-wall superconductivity (DWS) close to the critical temperature of Pb, when the Pb film above the domain wall acts as a superconducting path for the current. The evolution of the DWS signal with temperature and the external-field-driven … Show more

“…Previous investigations of planar F/S hybrid structures focused on transport measurements 3 4 5 6 7 , vortex imaging 8 9 , F/S junctions 10 or the visualization of reverse domain wall superconductivity by scanning laser microscopy with a spatial resolution of micrometres 11 12 . Here, we present low temperature scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy measurements focused on the direct visualization of the nucleation of superconductivity on the length scale of the superconducting coherence length.…”

“…For a superconductor-ferromagnet hybrid, where a superconducting film is deposited on top of a ferromagnetic substrate, the magnetic landscape within the superconducting film that is generated by the ferromagnetic substrate modifies the nucleation of superconductivity. This can lead to reverse-domain and domain-wall superconductivity, which has been imaged by LTSLM 81,82 . The polar MOKE (θ polar K ) image is shown in Fig.…”
