From the perspective of the system of systems development, system-level functional testing is required for designing subsystems. This study utilizes modeling and simulation techniques to analyze the operational behaviors of the subsystems and confirm data communication between them. The targeted system in the study is a naval combat system (NCS), which is a typical type of defense cyber-physical system (CPS). Three types of models were designed for the simulation testing of the NCS: a combat-management model for simulating the overall computational activities, physical models to confirm the intrasubsystem behaviors, and data integration models to test the intersubsystem communications. These models are realized with the Model-View-ViewModel design pattern, which strongly facilitates graphical user interfaces being decoupled from model logic and data. We consider underwater combat scenarios as an application. Six significant physical subsystems within the NCS are simulated and tested: a ship-steering system, an inertial navigation system, a global navigation satellite system, a periscope, sonar systems, and a plotting board. We expect that the proposed work will play a principal role when analyzing the behaviors and communications of defense CPSs and providing an environment for functional testing as a digital twin.

The application of domain specific modeling language (DSML) in the decision behavior modeling of the air-combat simulation brings higher level of abstraction and friendly environment. However, the decision behavior model must be translated to executed code before it be used in air-combat simulation system. So, how to realize auto generation of code and improving the efficiency has become an important problem. A code generation framework and mechanism based on python script is designed, which provide the semantic algorithm of air-combat simulation decision behavior modeling language and model explain framework. Otherwise, based on the BON technology provided by generic modeling environment (GME), a code generator is built in VS2010 using C++, which really realize the auto code generation and avoid the error and time waste by manual coding.

Enhancing model composability and reusability for entity-level combat simulation: A conceptual modeling approach

This paper presents a conceptual model design for entity-level combat simulation to enhance model composability and reusability. For conceptual modeling, we first describe the following three problem situations: (1) joint design of logical/ physical modeling; (2) flexible model modification during scenario extension; and (3) cooperative modeling with different domain experts. To this end, we propose a two-dimensional model partition method for a combat entity, which partitions the combat entity depending on the functional aspect horizontally and the abstract level vertically. Thus, the proposed method guarantees transparent simplification of the combat entity and facilitates flexible model composition when simulating in the integration and the interoperation environments. Based on the proposed conceptual modeling, empirical measurements demonstrate the enhancement of model composability and reusability during scenario extension for anti-submarine warfare from static decoy to mobile decoy and from pattern-running torpedo to wire-guided torpedo simulations.
