Doksazosinin Ortalama Trombosit Volümü Üzerine Etkisi

Abstract

Objective: Platelet volume is an important indicator for platelet activation and other platelet functions. This parameter is measured as Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) by the hemogram counters. There are many published studies showing that doxazosin lowers the serum lipid levels and MPV. Methods: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of doxazosin on serum lipid levels of patients monthly treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The study was held in Haydarpasa Training and Research Hospital Urology Clinic I in Istanbul. The naive 32 outpatients were included the study, diagnosed and treated for BPH with doxazosin some of having diabetes mellitus (DM), some of having hypertension (HT), and some of only BPH. Results: Pretreatment mean MPV was 8.66 fl, and posttreatment MPV was 8.83 fl. In DM+BPH group; pretreatment mean MPV was 9.3 fl, posttreatment mean MPV was 9.2 fl, and this decline was not statistically significant. In DM+HT+BPH group mean MPV values were higher than the mean MPV values of the only BPH patients which was also statistically insignificant (p>0.05). Pretreatment mean serum total cholesterol, mean serum ldl-cholesterol levels were orderly 232 gm/dl and 159 mg/dl.After the treatment these levels orderly decline to 204 mg/dl and 137 mg/dl which are statistically significant (p<0.00001). Conclusion:In conclusion, mean MPV values of patients with BPH+HT+DM were comparably higher than patients treated only for BPH which was statistically insignificant for a short term therapy. Conversely, we observed positive effects on lipid profile as expected on all patient groups for a short term therapy. Larger series and detailed, well designed long term studies would give us informative knowledge about the positive adverse events we dealed in this study. Diabetes mellitus ve hipertansiyon olan hastaların ortalama MPV değerleri olmayanlara göre daha yüksek bulundu. Tedavi öncesi ortalama total kolesterol: 232 mg/dl, tedavi sonrası ortalama kolesterol: 204 mg/dl, tedavi öncesi ortalama LDL-kolesterol: 159 mg/dl, tedavi sonrası ortalama LDL-kolesterol: 137 mg/dl olarak saptandı. Total kolesterol ve LDL-kolesteroldeki bu düşüşler istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulundu (p<0.0001). Sonuç: Sonuç olarak hipertansiyon ve diabetes mellituslu olan vakalarda MPV, sağlıklı bireylere göre daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Ancak kısa dönem doksazosin tedavisi ile MPV de anlamlı bir değişiklik oluşturmamıştır. Tedavi sonrası serum lipidleri üzerine olumlu etki gözlenmiştir. Doksazosinin hipertansiyon ve BPH dışındaki bu etkileri hakkında net fikirlerin oluşabilmesi için daha geniş serili ve uzun s üreli ilaç kullanımına ilişkin çalışmalara gereksinim vardır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Doksazosin, Ortalama Trombosit Volümü, benign prostat hiperplazisi.
