Abstract:The author has observed in the Campinas region (S. P.) that two social wasps. (Brachygastra augusti St. Hil. and Protonectarina silveirx Saussure) belonging to the subfamily Polybinse, are active predators of the larvae of Perileucoptera cofjeella Guér. Men) a leaf miner of the coffee plant (Coffea arabica L.).
Populational and morphometric analysis in a colony ofBrcch, gastra lechaguana (Latreille, 1824) during the reproductive phasePopulational and rnorphoinetric analysis of a Brach?gastra lechgLana (Latreilie, 1824) colony showed that in reproducti ve stage it is a polygynical one and its composition has a re latively prixnitive character, due to the fact that there appear many interinediate individuals. A statistical analysis of 10 measured characters showed significant differences among the three castes (workers, intermediates and queens) Most of the se characters were larger in the queens. Five larval instars were found for this species and the capsules of the head in larvae grow at constant rate of 1.38, in accordancewith Dyar's rule.
