Does the Health Literacy Level Impact the Traditional Practices in Postnatal Period?

Abstract

Objective:The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between the level of health literacy and traditional practices towards the mother in the postpartum period. Materials and Method:The research is descriptive and relationship seeking and the sample consisted of 430 mothers in the postpartum period. In the study, participant information form and Turkey health literacy scale was used as a data collection form. Descriptive statistics and chi-square test were used in the statistical analysis of the research data. Results:In the study, it was observed that postpartum traditional practice rate of mothers was 63.4% and older mothers used more traditional practices (p <0.05). It was found that the health literacy level of most of the mothers was sufficient or perfect. In the study, it was found that the level of health literacy did not affect mothers' traditional postpartum practice (p> 0.05). Conclusion:In the study, it was observed that the health literacy of the mothers did not affect the traditional practice at the postpartum period.
