Does Physio-environmental Determinism Influence the Infrastructural Development of Railway Stations?

Abstract: The main aim of the article is to understand the role of physiographical aspects and attributes in the infrastructural development of railway stations. Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System techniques have been used for delineating physiographic factors and data of social interfaces like passengers’ mobility collected from the railway stations. A robust Synthetic Indicator has been used to classify railway stations. The ordinal regression model has run between physio-environmental attributes and R… Show more

“…Important settlements are Pauk Taw, Changhit, Paukpinsbin, Nawnaw, Pyechim, Ann, Atet Minyan, Datkon, Kanbua, Gyokkon, Zohow, Kan, Haka, Kale, Mual Nuam of Myanmar, Champhui, Herman Veng, Keifang, Seling, Aizawl, Lengpui and Mamit of Mizoram and Sabual, Chowmanu of Tripura. Externalities of the proposed route can improve the economic condition of the region with certain considerable environmental degradation (Roy & Mitra, 2022a, 2022b. The railway line also passes through areas with a history of insurgent activities, which may pose a security challenge.…”

“…Utilization of spatial analysis tools is critical for identifying ecologically sensitive areas and lands suitable for railway development. Spatial scale modeling, such as Habitat Equivalency Analysis (HEA), assists in determining the permissible extent of habitat loss while maintaining ecological connectivity (Roy & Mitra, 2022b). The HEA model factors in variables such as habitat connectivity, species population, and habitat quality, to ascertain the minimal habitat area necessary to sustain species connectivity along the railway route.…”

“…Alongside this, Quantile-Quantile Plots (Q-Q plots) were employed to visually inspect the normality of observational datasets (Railway Track Length and Number of Railway Stations) as illustrated in Figure 3. For a dataset adhering to normality, its observations are plotted at a 45-degree angle from the (0,0) point on the Q-Q plot [19]. From this analysis, it was discerned that the province-wise distribution of railway infrastructure (encompassing both railway stations and tracks) in Iran does not adhere to a normal distribution.…”
