Does network position foster knowledge production? Evidence from international scientific collaboration network

Abstract: There is consensus among scholars that social networks are important mechanisms of knowledge spillovers. By occupying a central and advantageous network position in the collaboration network, it is easy for actors to access intangible external resources. However, empirical studies of the impact of network structure on knowledge production remain scarce. Based on copublication data from the Web of Science database (WoS) from 2000 to 2015, we construct eleven international scientific collaboration networks and e… Show more

“…Kunze [33] explored the relationship between innovation and trade in Europe. Gui et al [34] discussed the proximity mechanism of the global cooperation network for scientific research papers. is study adopts this model, which is based on the conceptual framework of multidimensional proximity, to develop a proximity mechanism model for intercity innovation networks as follows: R&D expenditure, human capital, and GDP per capita:…”

“…4, November 2020 According to the research on social cooperation networks, innovation subjects in a good position on social networks are conducive to improve the innovation performance [14]. Moreover, the centrality analysis of network nodes is an important and effective measure for network location [15], [16]. Generally speaking, degree centrality of a node is a measure of the number of connections established between a node and other nodes.…”
