Does Illumination of Non-Mature Cereal Kernels During Drying Affect the Germination Ability?

Abstract: The principle of the market competitiveness of breeding companies implicates a fast production of new varieties. One way to achieve this goal brings single seed descent (SSD) methodology, which requires kernels collection (18-23 days after pollination) , fast drying amd germination. Seed drying conditions influence the germination. In present work the influence of lightings: Sanyo LED and incandescent lamp vs. dark control during drying were studied. Kernels were harvested 18 and 23 days after pollination of w… Show more

“…Many authors present hypotheses regarding changes caused by physical phenomena induced by MF, for example changes in liquid crystal properties (cell membranes exhibit many properties of liquid crystal structures), as well as Hall, Dorfman and Ettinghausen effects [19][20][21][22][23][24]. Furthermore, water treated with the MF changes its physicochemical properties, and this may influence the course of some biochemical reactions [25][26][27][28][29][30][31]. Even such a very simplified summary of hypothetical explanations of the magnetic biostimulation mechanisms of plant cells shows how complex this phenomenon is.…”

“…Many hypotheses concern the changes caused by physical phenomena induced by a magnetic field, for instance changes in the properties of liquid crystals (cell membranes exhibit many properties of liquid crystal structures), as well as the Hall, Dorfman, and Ettinghausen effects (Polk and Fellow, 1991;Rosen, 2010;Podleśny and Pietruszewski, 2007;Blanchard, 1996;Aceto et al, 1970). Moreover, water treated with a magnetic field changes its physicochemical properties, which can influence the course of some biochemical reactions (Reina et al, 2001;Es'kov and Darkov, 2003;Moussa, 2011;Grewal and Maheshwari, 2011;Małuszyńska et al 2016). Even such a simplified summary o f hypothetical explanations of underlying mechanisms induced by magnetic biostimulation of plant cells indicates what a complex phenomenon it is.…”
