Does “Higher Wall” Hinder Immigration?

Abstract: In the present paper, we examine if "higher wall" really hinders immigration i.e., if tightening of border enforcement reduces immigration. The framework we construct is a stochastic one where an individual intends immigration under uncertainty that is expressed by geometric Brownian motion. It is revealed that "higher wall", contrary to the intention of regulatory authorities, does not hinder immigration.

“…Despite some critics of this approach (for example, Randell, 2020), it stimulated further mobility studies in the context of the European refugee crisis (Schorpp, 2016) and development of the politics of mobility (Cresswell, 2010). Additionally, there are numerous studies devoted to current problems of mobility regulation (Filipec and Macková, 2019;Fujita, 2018;Hlaváčková and Macková, 2020;Pankratz et al, 2018).…”

“…The qualitative assessment of probable migration from North Africa to OECD Countries (based on experts' considerations) was made by the French scientists (Gubert&Nordman, 2009). Influence of different measures of migration policy on immigration flows is studied in Japan using mathematical modelling (Fujita, 2018). Besides, studies on main drivers of international migration are popular now (for example, Migali et al, 2018;Gheasi & Nijkamp, 2017;Grenčíková & Španková, 2016).…”
