Does Antiaggregant Administration Lead to Early Diagnosis in Proximal Colon Cancer?

Abstract: OBJECTIVE:Cancers of the proximal colon are often diagnosed in advanced stages with iron deficiency anemia and nonspecific symptoms. Aspirin and clopidogrel are commonly used antiaggregant agents for various clinical conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of antiaggregant medication on the early diagnosis of proximal colon cancer.METHODS:Cases of colon cancer patients who had received curative surgical procedures between January 1, 2013 and July 31, 2016 were retrospectively reviewed.… Show more

“…Therefore, careful evaluation of the proximal colon should be aimed at colonoscopies for screening and anemia. 4,33 In a current study of van Renteln et al, 34 long-term cecal intubation time was defined as a factor that can reduce adenoma detection rates. It is detected that when retrograd evaluation of cecum is conducted, at least 6 minutes should be given because adenoma detection rate can be decreased under this period.…”

“…The gastrointestinal tract is one of these patients' most frequent bleeding sources 7 . The literature reports that patients who experience gastrointestinal bleeding while on anticoagulation or antiaggregant therapy positively diagnose colonic cancer at early stages (Stage I, II) [8][9][10][11] .…”

“…In addition, proximal colon cancer is associated with anemia and non-specific symptoms. Due to non-specific symptoms such as anemia, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss, it is difficult to diagnose the disease efficiently, resulting in a low survival rate 10 .…”

“…Colonoscopy remains the gold standard as a screening tool for tumor detection because it allows the removal of premalignant lesions and enables pathological diagnosis [ 6 ]. On the other hand, increasing prevalence of proximal colon cancer, aggressive behavior due to tumor biology and failure to detect a tumor in colonoscopy, and late diagnosis contribute to an increase in mortality rates from CRC [ 7 ].…”
