“…The results from the p-CPA treatment and the lesion studies tell us that the 5-HT-stimulated adenylate cyclase is under physiological serotonergic control and is functionally responsive to modifications of the serotonergic input. Our results are in apparent disagreement with previous reports (Enjalbert et al, 1978a,b;Nelson et al, 1978;Whitaker and Deakin, 1981), because we find that cyclase activation by 5-HT is regulated by serotonergic innervation, and we find a 5-HT activation of adenylate cyclase in the adult hippocampus, which could not be demonstrated by Nelson et al (1980a,b). The reasons for this discrepancy escape detection.…”

“…This 1S in contrast to the findings of Whitaker and Deakin (1981) who conclude that there is no autoreceptor function of the 5-HT1 binding site in the frontal cortex. However, in the present study the number of PCA treated animals is low and a firm statement on the possible existence of presynaptic 5-HT~ binding sites can not be done.…”

“…Multiple serotonin receptor subtypes have been described with (i) different brain regional localizations (6); (ii) different physiologic functions (7,8); (iii) ontogenetic variations (9); (iv) modulation by guanine nucleotides (10) 4 and was homogenized as a 10% (wt/vol) suspension in a Teflon glass grinder. The homogenate was centrifuged at 580 x g for 10 min.…”
