Background Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition characterized by impaired cognitive function. It results in high morbidity, including a large number of hospitalizations, and mortality, generating high costs to health systems. Objective The present epidemiological analysis evaluated the number of hospitalizations and deaths by AD as the main diagnosis in Brazil between 2010 and 2020. This endeavor should contribute to a better understanding of the disease and its implications. Methods The present analytical, observational, longitudinal, and retrospective study used data extracted from the Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System (DATASUS, in the Portuguese acronym). The variables include the number of hospitalizations, the total cost spent, the average cost per hospitalization, the average length of hospital stay, the number of deaths during hospitalization, the mortality rate per hospitalization, sex, age group, region, and race. Results From 2010 to 2020, there were 188,811 deaths and 13,882 hospitalizations for AD, with a total expenditure of BRL 25,953,019.40 in hospitalizations. The average length of hospital stay was 25 days. Over the considered period, mortality, the number of hospitalizations, and the total cost increased while the average length of stay decreased. Conclusion From 2010 to 2020, AD represented a large portion of hospital admissions, generating a significant cost to the health system and a large number of deaths. These data are important to undertake joint efforts to prevent hospitalizations of these patients in order to minimize impacts on the health system.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is classified as a neurodegenerative disorder that alters the memory and cognitive capacity of the affected individual, in addition to causing behavioral changes and other neuropsychiatric symptoms. In this work, genes involved in the metabolism of this neurodegenerative disorder were reported, as well as their positioning on their chromosomes with an emphasis on the human genome. The following research sources were used to collect data and results: scientific articles, books and websites specializing in this subject regarding AD and the human genome. The result of this investigation indicated that the genes studied are located on chromosomes 1, 14, 17, 19 and 21 in the human genome, and associated with early AD disease in humans. Therefore, the identification of genes related to AD is necessary for a better understanding of AD genetics and also for the development of molecular markers of therapeutic targets for the diagnosis and treatment of this dementia.

O papel do enfermeiro no Alzheimer entra como educador em saúde ajudando na adaptação e na observação sobre as complicações, atende na terapia prescrita, promove resolução de surgimento de problemas, e é responsável por prevenir possíveis doenças. O enfermeiro deve aproveitar da terapia nos estágios da doença que é construída por comunicação simples, fala calma, frases curtas e pesquisas multissensoriais, como: visão, audição, olfato, teto, gustação e audição. O estudo teve por objetivo, analisar e criar estratégia para melhorar a qualidade de vida do portador de Alzheimer. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura, onde selecionou artigos, a partir de bases de dados eletrônicas utilizadas como: Brasil Scientific Electronic Libray Online (SciELO) e Literatura Latino-Americano e do Caribe de Informar em Ciência da Saúde (LILACS). Os profissionais de enfermagem que desempenham cuidados com esse público devem estar habilitados a criar métodos de interação com o paciente e seus familiares, visando desenvolver conhecimento, domínio e capacitação ampliada. Conclui-se que, o Alzheimer necessita da capacidade do enfermeiro para criação do projeto, da pesquisa pensando em resultados promissores para promover qualidade de vida ao paciente, juntamente com apoio familiar.
