This study aims to scholarly analyze the trends in business research and its significance for developing economies. As a case-study approach, the trends and methodological issues in MBA theses during the span from 1996 to 2018 in Jordan have been considered. Further, keeping the broader research theme intact, significant attention has been given to the analysis of operations and information systems. A total of 283 MBA theses have been ascertained and analysed, where both descriptive and in-depth analyses of data have been conducted. The findings exposed a number of critical business-research problems. These problems affect both the applicability and quality of research works and limit their contributions in academic and practical fields. Several conclusions, policy implications and directions for future research have been suggested for academia and practitioners in business

This article considers the optimisation problem of a multi-objective mass-consumption supply chain network considering cost minimisation and environmental criteria, as well as the analysis of scenarios with variable demand. This study seeks to determine the closure and consolidation of distribution centres and the identification of product flows in the network. The efficiency of the mathematical model has been tested with real information obtained from a Colombian multinational company manufacturing products of mass-consumption. The results confirm the efficiency of the model and its positive impact on determining the environmental impact of gas emissions related to the type of transportation used and the appropriate cost for the case study company.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate Chinese doctoral dissertations in supply chain management (SCM) by providing an overview of the evolution of this topic over the past 25 years.Design/methodology/approachThis study reviews 1,945 doctoral dissertations in SCM from 39 Project 985 universities in China.FindingsThe annual number of SCM doctoral dissertations in China varied significantly over time, and the top producers are all strong players in the SCM field with long histories of research. The dissertations use multiple methods, of which mathematical, econometric modeling and simulation, and survey are the most frequently used. Most of the frequently used theories are borrowed from other disciplines. Traditional research topics are frequently investigated in Chinese doctoral dissertations in SCM, but the popular research topics differ by period.Originality/valueThis study has examined Chinese doctoral dissertations in SCM through a literature review. This study provides implications for research topics, methodological approaches, and theoretical lenses for future research. It also disseminates Chinese SCM knowledge to the global academic network to stimulate more SCM research.
