Abstract:Arthritis is one of the most common chronic conditions in aging adults, with both physical and mental health issues and consequences. However, there is insufficient arthritis research among aging adults with serious mental illness (SMI). This study examined rates of doctor-diagnosed arthritis and its cross-sectional associations with self-reported physical health function among adults aged 50 years and older with SMI. Community-based mental health center participants (n = 176) reported clinical and sociodemogr… Show more
“…Significant associations between loneliness and self-reported health conditions that cause pain were found. This finding is consistent with previous studies that found chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder and arthritis have shown significant negative and adjusted associations with physical health status in people with SMI 35 . Both SMI and chronic pain conditions are conceptualized by biological, psychological, and socio-cultural/environmental models of health and illness 36 .…”
Objective: Explore the association between loneliness and psychiatric hospitalizations, functioning, and physical health conditions in people with serious mental illness. Methods: Data were included from 349 individuals with serious mental illnesses, aged 18+ years, who participated in two consecutive cross-sectional survey studies conducted between 2013 and 2018.Results: A higher number of psychiatric hospitalizations in the past six months was associated with greater loneliness. The Short-Form-12 mental component score was a highly significant correlate, accounting for a significant amount of variance in loneliness scores. The physical component score and the bodily pain subdomain of the Short-Form-12 were also significantly associated with loneliness, with individuals with lower physical functioning and greater bodily pain reporting more loneliness. Having a higher total number of health conditions, higher total number of conditions that cause pain, and the presence of at least one respiratory condition were found to be associated with greater loneliness.Discussion: Loneliness may be an important dimension of health as related to health conditions associated with pain, functioning, and psychiatric hospitalizations among people with serious mental illness. These finding reinforce the powerful role of socio-cultural and environmental factors in shaping whole health in people with serious mental illness.

“…In addition, basketball is an aerobic exercise, which can increase the ugly activity of the fetus. With the increase of the amount of basketball exercise, the body fat decomposition speed is accelerated, the utilization rate of fat is improved, the lean weight is increased, and the body fat rate is reduced, which makes the human body more beautiful [5]. Basketball is characterized by long time and high intensity.…”
Section: Influence Of Basketball On Healthmentioning
By accelerating the aforementioned industrialisation and urbanisation, people’s way of life has undergone enormous changes. The incidence of overweight and obesity increases rapidly. This research first broke through the impact of basketball on improving physical health and then designed experiments separately. The experiment is divided into two experimental groups and a replacement group, with 150 people in total, 50 people per group, excluding the interference of gender, age, and other factors. The influencing factors are studied under the monitoring of the Internet of Things technology. One group had 8 weeks of basketball training, and the other group had 8 weeks of plant diet. The results showed that the average weight of the nutrition intervention group was reduced by 9.85 kg, and the average weight of the exercise intervention group was reduced by 7.64 kg. The percentage of body fat and blood lipid composition of the obese people have decreased, which indicates that the combination of basketball intervention under the monitoring of the Internet of Things technology can improve the physique of obese people.
“…The global prevalence of arthritis is ∼0.34% to 0.36% 1–3 . The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and gouty arthritis (GA).…”
Pain is the main symptom of arthritis. Microneedling is a new method of transdermal drug delivery that relives the pain in arthritis according to the mechanisms of pain in arthritis. This paper provides a review of the mechanisms of pain in arthritis and the use of different types of microneedles (MNs) in pain relief in arthritis. The mechanism of pain in arthritis is primarily a joint tissue lesion that causes the release of inflammatory factors by pro-inflammatory cells, resulting in pain. MNs can carry various drugs to reduce inflammatory factors, cartilage destruction and thus the symptom of pain. MNs can be classified into five types, which are solid MNs, hollow MNs, coated MNs, dissolving MNs, and swelling MNs. Among them, dissolving MNs and swelling MNs have better prospects for application in long-term management of pain in arthritis due to the biosafety of their materials and its convenience brought by the sustained-release design.
