Do we need Green Analytical Chemistry?

Abstract: There is very strong opinion that Green Analytical Chemistry is needed beside so-called common Analytical Chemistry. However, the developments in Analytical Chemistry must lead to environmentally safe, economical and cost-effective methods on the whole.

“…Among many factors that look decisive for the development of this field is the synthetic accessibility of these systems. Generally, it is highly desirable that these scaffolds originated from a simple, clean and easy synthetic route which also aligns well with the current idea of "green analytical chemistry (GAC)" [17][18][19][20][21][22]. Moreover, methods that ensure high degree of structural and functional diversity are an added advantage in studying structure property relationships (SPRs).…”

“…The current comfortable situation has led to some limitations in the possibilities of separations in HPLC. This situation is deepened by the fact that many regulating agencies require the employment of validated methods which include ACN as a mandatory mobile phase component [7]. From the growing environmental awareness that led to the emergence of the so-called Bgreen chemistry,^new research has emerged to find replacements to ACN [8], especially because it is an undesirable solvent from a sustainable point of view [9,10].…”

“…There are few tools to evaluate analytical procedures in terms of meeting the requirements of green analytical chemistry. Eco-Scale is one such tool [ 33 , 34 , 35 ].…”
