Inspired by the discontinuation of the blockchain platform TradeLens, co-developed by IBM and Maersk, due to the lack of the involved supply chain stakeholders’ adoption, a critical literature review on the models of supply chain stakeholders’ adoption of blockchain applications was conducted. This review is significant as it provides insights into the exploration of a more universal approach to investigate which factors really influence blockchain adoption, which is a pre-requisite for the technical sustainability of blockchain technology in supply chains. As observed in the review, the technology acceptance model (TAM), the technology–organization–environment (TOE) framework, and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) are frequently used in the literature, but little attention has been paid to whether blockchain technology fits the users’ tasks in understanding blockchain adoption in the supply chain. Among the technology adoption theories, task–technology fit (TTF) considers whether a technology fits the tasks, but only two previous studies involved the use of TTF. This study discusses the suitability of these existing models of technology adoption for blockchain applications in supply chains and comes up with a new unified model, namely TOE-TTF-UTAUT. This review also has implications for a more appropriate conceptual research design using mixed methods.

This study investigates the enhancement of technological and strategic enablers for carbon‐neutral businesses (CNB) through artificial intelligence (AI)‐driven business model innovation (AIDBMI). Drawing upon the insights gained from the literature review, the study employs structural equation modeling (partial least squares structural equation modeling [PLS‐SEM]) as the methodology to examine the relationships between AIDBMI, technological enablers, strategic enablers, and the attainment of carbon neutrality. The sample size consists of 326 small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United States of America. The findings of this study affirm the significant positive relationships between AIDBMI and both technological and strategic enablers for CNB. The utilization of AI technologies proves to be instrumental in fostering the development and implementation of innovative business models that integrate sustainability practices and address environmental challenges. By leveraging AIDBMI, SMEs can harness technological advancements to adopt energy‐efficient processes, embrace renewable energy solutions, and implement effective carbon reduction strategies. Moreover, the study highlights the critical role of strategic enablers in driving the transition towards carbon neutrality. The alignment of sustainability goals with organizational strategies, stakeholder collaboration, and employee engagement emerge as pivotal factors in enabling SMEs to effectively utilize AIDBMI and leverage technological advancements to achieve carbon neutrality. The implications of this study contribute to the existing literature by highlighting the importance of technological and strategic enablers in creating CNB. By integrating AIDBMI, organizations can drive sustainable transformations, optimize their operations, and align their resource management with sustainable practices. These insights provide valuable guidance for SMEs, policymakers, and researchers seeking to foster sustainable practices, promote carbon neutrality, and contribute to the advancement of a low‐carbon economy.

Blockchain technology has the potential to significantly enhance trust in supply chain management by providing a secure and transparent system for recording and tracking transactions. A blockchain is essentially a distributed ledger that is maintained by a network of nodes, and each node holds a copy of the same ledger. Transactions validated and recorded by the nodes in the network, and once a transaction is recorded, it cannot be altered or deleted. One of the key benefits of using blockchain technology in supply chain management is the ability to provide end-to-end traceability of products. By using a blockchain-based system, every transaction that occurs within the supply chain can be recorded and tracked, allowing for greater transparency and accountability. This can help to reduce the risk of fraud, counterfeiting, and other illegal activities within the supply chain. By using a decentralized system for recording and tracking transactions, there is less need for intermediaries and intermediaries, which can reduce costs and increase the speed of transactions. Overall, blockchain technology has the potential to significantly enhance trust in supply chain management by providing a secure and transparent system for recording and tracking transactions. However, there are still some challenges that need to be addressed, such as interoperability between different blockchain systems, and the need for standardization of data formats and protocols.
