Do Stem Cells Have an Effect When We Fat Graft?

Abstract: Fat grafting has become a widely accepted modality of soft tissue restoration and has found applications in many areas of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Numerous claims have been made regarding the regenerative effects of fat grafting on the recipient bed. The purpose of this paper is to survey the available literature to answer the question of whether fat grafting has a positive effect on the surrounding tissues. It has been convincingly demonstrated that fat grafts contain viable adipose-deriv… Show more

“…13 Stem cell enrichment, in particular, increases fat graft survival with its angiogenic effects. 14 There are many studies in the literature in the direction that ADSC enrichment increases fat graft viability. [15][16][17] Autologous PRP is a whole blood product obtained by centrifugation from the patient's own blood.…”

“…Although cell enhancement can be performed in every fat grafting procedure, the evidence does not support the routine use of ASCs-enriched fat grafts and the author has been able to verify this fact during his last four years of experience. The increase in operative time, expenses, and efficiency must drive its use to selected cases [ 17 ]. In the author's experience, cell-assisted fat grafting can be considered an indication whenever graft/host interface is defective, compromising cell survival, or to enhance their regenerative potential in damaged tissues by fibrosis or adhesions.…”

“…Video-otoscopy analysis was performed using the Paint.net image analysis program (version 4.2.9; dotPDN LLC) to measure the size of the perforations as previously described. 13 For statistical analysis, IBM SPSS Statistics (version 23.0, IBM Corp) was used.…”
