Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of domestic violence and severity of depression, anxiety, and stress with some socio-demographic characteristics among women who have sought sanctuary in domestic violence shelters. Materials and Methods: This study utilized a cross-sectional design, employing different sampling methods to recruit a total of 46 participants. A convenience sampling method was used for the study group, while purposive sampling was employed for the control group. The primary data collection tool was a standardized questionnaire consisting of three validated scales: the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-42). Results: The independent t-test analysis reveals highly significant differences between both groups (P≤0.001). The multivariate analysis has revealed significant differences among occupations in stress (P≤0.05), and significant differences were found in Relationship with family for Depression, Anxiety, and Stress (P≤0.001). Conclusions: Psychiatric disorders among domestic violence victims are very common, and the assessment of psychiatric disorders in domestic violence shelters is often overlooked or completely neglected. Physical, psychological, and verbal abuse are dominant types of violence suffered by shelter residents.

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasingly used by patients nowadays. The pooled prevalence of CAM use is about 51%. Many types of CAM have been practiced by patients with diabetes. Some of them showed promising results on blood glucose and other cardiometabolic parameters such as blood pressure, body mass, and lipid profile. This chapter explores two main types of CAM: Herbs and mind–body therapy. Different types of mind–body therapy and plants, plant extracts, and herbal substances have been utilized for an extended period and are sometimes favored by many individuals with T2D. Those practices and compounds found in these natural remedies are believed to have the potential to benefit the body in several ways, including the reduction of symptoms, alleviation of pain, and promotion of overall health. This chapter includes a summary of the findings of the available systematic reviews and meta-analyses regarding the most used medicinal herbs and body–mind therapies. In conclusion, as some of these interventions are promising, it is unclear to what extent glucose metabolism and certain substances can help mitigate complications in late-stage diabetes. Healthcare providers should be aware about them.

Ethnomedicine, the traditional medical practices and beliefs of a particular cultural or ethnic group, may offer cost-effective and culturally acceptable treatment options for diabetes. Ethnomedicine encompasses various traditional healing practices, such as herbalism, acupuncture, and massage therapy. This article reviews the current evidence-based state of ethnomedicine for diabetes, focusing on the efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of action of selected ethnomedical interventions. The results indicate that some ethnomedical practices, such as herbal remedies and dietary interventions, may have beneficial effects on glycaemic control, insulin sensitivity, and oxidative stress in diabetes. However, the evidence is inconsistent and limited by methodological flaws, such as small sample size, lack of control group, and inadequate reporting. Moreover, some ethnomedical interventions may pose significant risks, such as drug interactions and adverse effects. Therefore, it is essential that patients consult with their healthcare provider before using any ethnomedical interventions for diabetes and that these interventions be rigorously evaluated using scientific methods.
