Do Cognitive Abilities Influence Physical and Mental Fatigue in Patients with Chronic Pain after Walking According to a Clinical Guideline for Physical Exercise?

Abstract: The objective of this study is to explore the mediator role of cognitive fusion and chronic pain acceptance on the effects that the walking pattern, following an established clinical guideline for physical exercise, can have on fatigue (physical and mental) in patients with chronic pain. The sample consisted of a total of 231 women with fibromyalgia with a mean age of 56.91 years (Standard Deviation SD = 9.58 years, range 30−78 years). The results show a significant indirect effect of the walking pattern on bo… Show more

“…Moreover, the indirect effect of PF was preserved for the effects of personality traits on fatigue, suggesting that their combined impact on the physical components of well-being was stronger than when factors were treated individually [ 74 ]. Ultimately, our findings highlight that personal tendencies have an impact on fatigue levels through PF, which is similar to other conclusions pointing to the influence of these processes on subjective energy levels, above and beyond physical constraints [ 76 , 77 ].…”

“…In the FS-14 scale, the score of psychological burnout was decreased significantly, suggesting that the waterfall forest environment had a ameliorative effect on the negative emotions and promoted energy recovery of patients with CFS. Individuals with severe CFS also often have cognitive impairment, and this study used the PASAT scale to assess cognitive function (24). The results showed that the waterfall environment notably improved the PASAT score and restored the cognitive function of participants with CFS, while the urban street environment had no improving effect.…”

“…They also proposed that motor or cognitive task-induced state fatigue is a psychophysiological condition characterized by a decrease in motor or cognitive performance (i.e., motor or cognitive performance fatigue, respectively) and/or an increased perception of fatigue (i.e., perceived motor or cognitive fatigue). Accordingly, the assessment and management of fatigue involved a broad range of dimensions of the individual’s motor, cognitive, and spiritual conditions (Catala et al, 2021; Greenhouse-Tucknott et al, 2020).…”
