Do ADHD and Executive Dysfunctions, Measured by the Hebrew Version of Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Functions (BRIEF), Completely Overlap?

Abstract: The centrality of executive function deficits (EFD) in attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is well accepted albeit EFD is not synonymous with ADHD. The purpose of the present study was to examine the extent to which ADHD and EF overlap and to validate the Hebrew version of the Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Functions (BRIEF). Parents of 178 children with and without ADHD completed the BRIEF and the ADHD-Rating Scale. Significant differences were found between groups on each scale even af… Show more

“…Children with ADHD demonstrated impairment compared to controls in this test [Homack and Riccio, 2004;Seidman et al, 2006;Boonstra et al, 2010]. To evaluate the executive function of ADHD in real life, an ecological instrument-the ''BRIEF scale''-has been used and results indicated the impaired executive functions of ADHD [Gioia et al, 2000;Toplak et al, 2009;Linder et al, 2010]. In our previous studies, we have used both the Stroop test and the BRIEF scale to evaluate the inhibition function of ADHD in Chinese Han subjects, and confirmed significant dis-inhibition in ADHD [Qian et al, 2010;Shuai et al, 2011].…”

“…Teachers rated each item on a 3-point scale ranging from 1 (never) to 3 (very often/always). Prior findings have demonstrated the validity and reliability of this scale (Lyons Usher et al, 2016), as well as the content validity of the scale's Hebrew adaptation, showing only moderate correlation with a measure of ADHD symptomatology (Linder, Kroyzer, Maeir, Wertman-Elad, & Pollak, 2010). In the current study, Cronbach's αs of these narrow-band subscales, broadband scales, and overall composite scale ranged from .70 to .98.…”
