“…Typically, PGCs undergo several developmental stages before transforming into functional germ cells. These begin with PGC specification regulated by parental derivates ( Hong et al, 2016 ; Zhu et al, 2018 ) or epigenetic reprogramming ( Yabuta et al, 2006 ; Saitou and Yamaji, 2012 ), followed by mobility acquisition to reach gonad anlage ( Richardson and Lehmann, 2010 ; Paksa and Raz, 2015 ), and eventually attaining sexual identity, influenced by genetic/intrinsic ( Devlin and Nagahama, 2002 ; Matsuda, 2005 ) or environmental/extrinsic ( Baroiller et al, 2009 ) cues. Cumulative evidence suggests that each of these stages are governed by a group of molecules which recruit epigenetic machinery ( Andersen et al, 2012 ), RNA interference apparatus ( Giraldez et al, 2006 ) and/or signaling pathways ( Boldajipour et al, 2008 ) safeguarding PGCs from somatic differentiation ( Gross-Thebing et al, 2017 ), ectopic migration and apoptosis ( Lai et al, 2012 ).…”
