DNA interaction with synthetic polymers in solution

Abstract: DNA complexes with cationic polymers (polyvinylamine (PVA), polyallylamine (PAA), polydimethylaminoethylmethacrylate (PDMAEM), poly-(N,N,Ntrimethylammonio)ethyl methacrylate chloride (PTMA EM), poly-L-lysine (PLL)) were investigated. It was shown that volume and persistent length of DNA do not change essentially at low cationic polymer concentration in a solution. DNA packaging in 0.005 M NaCl was observed at charge ratio N/P % 1. Secondary DNA structure in complexes was not disrupted, and DNA was protected fr… Show more

“…[19] Because of the resemblance of their ends to the frayed end of a rope, we refer to these structures as nanoropes. We propose that the driving force for this process is similar to the condensation of DNA by multivalent cations [26,27] and cationic polymers, [28][29][30][31][32][33][34] although the structures formed by PPy-DNA appear rather different owing to the stiffness of PPy. Some similar bundles have been reported in the Zn 2þ / DNA system known as M-DNA.…”

“…Being interested in various subjects he invited to the conferences specialists working in different fields, and reports and numerous discussions with participants stimulated new themes in his investigations. So, it is quite natural that the most part of papers in this issue devoted both organic crystal chemistry [107][108][109] and structural investigations of other objects [102,[110][111][112] are presented by regular participants of these conferences.…”

“…93,94 A variety of modifications have been investigated to improve PDMAEMA's properties for drug delivery applications. 95,96 Utilizing reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization with a bifunctional chain transfer agent, reducible disulfide groups were introduced. 97 Since the RAFT method results in dithioester terminated polymers, aminolysis and oxidative conditions in successive steps lead to rPDMAEMA of higher molecular weight with reducible disulfide bonds on the backbone (see Scheme 1.3).…”
