DMaC: Distributed Monitoring and Checking

Abstract: Abstract. We consider monitoring and checking formally specified properties in a network. We are addressing the problem of deploying the checkers on different network nodes that provide correct and efficient checking. We present the DMaC system that builds upon two bodies of work: the Monitoring and Checking (MaC) framework, which provides means to monitor and check running systems against formally specified requirements, and declarative networking, a declarative domain-specific approach for specifying and imp… Show more

“…We will follow the latter approach to achieve runtime monitoring of a distributed set of simulation runs. Performing monitoring and runtime ver ification in a distributed environment has been discussed in [23], where Zhou et al describe an extension to their monitoring and checking framework MaC to evaluate network protocols that are specified with declarative networking. In our case, the simulation experiments are independent and communication among clients is not considered.…”

“…In the different means to provide dependability guarantees in systems, supervising [MR10], [JRR94], [ZSLL09], [CJ05], or monitoring systems and applications states is a requisite to detect a possible violation of system specification and envisage a recovery action . In a first section, we introduce a slight modification of the semantics of Petri nets to be able to execute it in partial executions and noisy observation environments.…”
