Division of coalbed methane-enriched units in the Qinshui Basin

Abstract: Division of CBM (coalbed methane)-enriched units is an important precondition and basic work for formulation of scientific CBM exploration procedure and improvement of CBM exploration success rate. In consideration of the CBM particularity and complexity as well as its distribution in China, the CBM-enriched units are divided into 5 levels, i.e. CBM-bearing region, CBM-bearing basin, CBMenriched area, CBM-enriched zone, and CBM reservoir (field). The Qinshui Basin is one of the China's richest CBM basins with … Show more

“…The common distribution depth of CBM in the Qinshui Basin is 1500 m. , Therefore, this depth was chosen for the simulation experiment. According to the ground temperature gradient in the Qinshui basin, the temperature and pressure at this depth are 50 °C and 15 MPa, respectively.…”

“…The Qinshui Basin is China’s most developed CBM exploration and development basin. 22 The main geological characteristics of the CBM development are thick coal seams, stable distribution, high thermal evolution degree, and large gas generation. However, unfavorable conditions include deep coal seam burial, high stress, complex geological structure, fractured coal body structure, poor gas saturation, low gas content, and low permeability.…”
