S~LITARY caecal diverticula are distinctly rare, but they form an interesting type of caecal lesion. As tke right lower quadrant of the abdomen is the one most frequently explored, especially by relatively inexperienced operators, caecal diverticula merit a little more attention than is usually given to them in text-books of surgery. In British Surgical Practice (1948, 3, 273) it is stated briefly that these diverticula are rare and often mistaken for carcinoma and tuberculosis of the caecum but no details are given.Rather more than IOO cases have now been recorded (Anderson, 1946). Four cases have been published in British journals during the last twelve years-Bennett-Jones (1g37), Grace (1938, 1g40), Hendlass (1944), Dorling (1945).
