Diversity of arthropods regarding habitat specialty in agro-ecosystem of Faisalabad, Pakistan

Abstract: Biodiversity is a measurement of the variety of organisms within species present in an ecosystem and can refer to ecosystem variation, genetic variation and species variation within a biome. They consist of diversity, evenness, dominance and richness of inhabiting taxa in that area. This study was carried out to check the diversity of different arthropods among crops and fields of District Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. Total 1088 specimens were collected belonging to 8 orders, 24 families, 35 genera and 38 spe… Show more

“…Pakistan’s arthropod biodiversity has been estimated to contain anywhere from approximately 5,000 to 20,000 species, according to various sources ( Hasnain, 1998 ; Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan, 2019 ). Nevertheless, these previous estimates have been deemed insufficient by recent studies ( Baig & Al-Subaiee, 2009 ; Rana et al, 2019 ). This research aimed to provide a more accurate assessment of regional fauna by utilizing DNA barcoding and the BIN system.…”

“…This may be attributed to the availability of preferred habitats to the species i.e. moist soil, litter and rotting wood (Wilson 1990;Ross et al 2002;Sawada & Hirowatari 2002;Sörensson 2003;Bhusnar 2015;Rana et al 2019). Scarabaeid species showed different patterns of assemblages at DVNP and Gujrat which may be attributed to variations in vegetation, animal type, and habitat stability.…”

“…Tiger beetles are visual predators on small live arthropods (Cornelisse et al, 2013) and forage in search of ants (Satoh and Hayaishi, 2007), other insects, spiders and small crustaceans (Rewicz and Jaskula, 2018). Most of these arthropods are non-fliers and accounts for the largest percentage of animal biomass and biodiversity in agroecosystems (Naureen et al, 2019). The presence of large numbers of wingless arthropods may attract the flightless arboreal tiger beetle species more than the species with flying ability.…”
