Diverse Application of Unique High-Performance Water-Based-Mud Technology in the Middle East

Abstract: fax 01-972-952-9435. AbstractA high performance water based mud (HPWBM) system has been used successfully to address a combination of drilling challenges faced in the Middle East. Drilling problems encountered in the area typically include shale instability through pressure transmission effects, swelling clay-stone, bit balling, drill-string accretion, differential sticking over tight gas permeable sands and down-hole losses. All these challenges can be very difficult to overcome with conventional water based … Show more

“…Unfortunately, as far as we are aware, the FR WBM system has remained rarely referenced. One similar concept is reported in the development of high-performance AFs (Al-Ansari et al 2005;Dye et al 2005;Morton et al 2005). Consequently, it is interesting to understand how FR WBM functions at a wide range of temperatures.…”

“…Dane literaturowe (Bielewicz i Bortel, 2000;Bielewicz et al, 2003aBielewicz et al, , 2003bvan Oort, 2003;Dye et al, 2004Dye et al, , 2005Al-Ansari et al, 2005;Zhong, 2011;Balaban et al, 2015;Huang et al, 2017) z ostatnich lat w szerokim zakresie dotyczą stosowania polielektrolitów hydrofilowych z grupami aminowymi. Polimery z grupami aminowymi, głównie pierwszorzędowymi, które są bardziej reaktywne niż polimery z grupami amidowymi, można na wiele sposobów modyfikować chemicznie, otrzymując związki o różnych masach cząsteczkowych, gęstości ładunku i ich rozkładu wzdłuż łańcucha.…”

“…In the process of drilling for oil and gas, drilling fluid is in direct contact with the formation and plays a vital role, which can be equivalent to the role of blood to the human body [1]. Such as (1) transporting drilling cuttings from the bottom of the well back to the surface, (2) cooling down the drilling tools, (3) equilibrating the pore pressure of the formation, (4) reducing the coefficient of friction between the drilling tools and the wellbore, (5) forming a compact filter cake to prevent the filtrate of drilling fluid from penetrating into the formation, and (6) improving the recovery rate of reservoir stratum permeability [2,3]. Generally, drilling fluids can be divided into three categories: water-based drilling fluid (WBDF), oil-based drilling fluid (OBDF), and synthetic-based drilling fluid (SBDF) [4].…”
