Diurnal Variations of Blood Pressure in Cats

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Blood pressure (BP) was analyzed invasively using the telemetry system in unanesthetized, unrestrained healthy adult mongrel cats. After surgical implantation of a telemetry transmitter, BP was transiently elevated due to the invasive nature of the surgery, but it was gradually decreased. BP was largely stabilized seven to ten days postsurgery. Once BP was settled, systolic, diastolic and mean BPs 2 were obtained at 5-min intervals in individual cats. Hourly averages of these BP values revealed a diu… Show more

“…Mean blood pressure values in healthy, non-sedated cats are 118 mm Hg for systolic, 95 mm Hg for mean and 78 mm Hg for diastolic (Mishina and others 2006). When compared with these values, tigers in this study, in both groups, were hypertensive.…”

“…Cats were kept under the conditions we have described previously [28], given water ad libitum and fed with Waltham Feline Veterinary Diet Renal Support Low Phosphorus Low Protein Diet ® (Master Foods Ltd., Tokyo, Japan). Experimental induction of CRF: After monitoring baseline blood pressure for approximately 3 months, 7/8 renal ablation was performed.…”

“…Blood pressure: Blood pressure was measured by a telemetric system as we have previously described [28]. A transmitter (Data Sciences International, Minnesota, U.S.A.) was implanted in the femoral artery, and systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressures were monitored continuously for 24 hr without anesthesia or restraint.…”
