“…Also the influence of air temperature seems to be important. Similar conclusions on the seasonal variations in the environmental gamma-radiation were reported in literature (Baciu, 2006;Lebedyte et al, 2003;Prasad et al, 2005;Yamazaki et al, 2002). Hereafter only the results for 40 K activity and soil water content are reported.…”

“…Each January, radon concentrations peak (Debaje et al, 1996) in which large cluster-ion pairs are produced. This may be due to intense temperature inversions during the colder period (January), leading to the accumulation of more radon near the Earth's surface and increasing the ionization rate (Parsad et al, 2005). Therefore, as compared to all other months we observed a greater number of positive and negative cluster ions in January 2008.…”

“…5 and 6, the average ion concentrations are decreasing from January 2008 to May 2008. Due to high temperatures, radon escapes to higher altitudes (Debaje et al, 1996, Parsad et al, 2005, therefore in May 2008 the minimum average for air ions was observed for all time periods.…”

“…The observatory is located on the outskirts of the city and relatively free from air pollution produced by vehicular traffic and human activities. The details of experimental setup for the measurement of radon and its progeny to obtain ion production rate are given in Prasad et al (2005) and Nagaraja et al (2009) and here it is briefly discussed for the continuity of presentation. Simultaneous measurements of temperature, relative humidity, pressure and wind speed have been made.…”
