Distrontium nickel orthophosphate

Abstract: The Ni 2÷ cations in Sr2Ni(PO4)2 occupy two sites of octahedral geometry and are separated by distances of greater than 4.8 ,~ [average Ni--O bond 2.08 (2) ,~]. Strontium shows eightfold coordination with irregular geometry and an average Sr--O distance of 2.64(2) A.

“…Compounds with the general formula A2Ni(PO4)2, A = Sr, Ba, have been investigated recently because of their potential magnetic properties (Elbali, Boukhari, Holt & Aride, 1993;Elbali et al, 1994). Most of the structural features of analogous diamagnetic compounds where Ni is replaced by Zn or Mg are still unknown, although the existence of such compounds was reported some time ago (Hoffman, 1965).…”

“…Binary phosphates of strontium and divalent metals (Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cd) have been studied and characterized by di!erent authors. Crystal structures of -SrZn (PO ) (6), SrNi (PO ) (7), Sr Ni(PO ) (8), SrCo (PO ) (9), Sr Co(PO ) (10), SrMn (PO ) (11), Sr Cu (PO ) (12), and Sr Fe (PO ) (13) were determined. Phase diagrams M (PO ) }Sr (PO ) were investigated for M"Ca, Mg, Zn (1) and Cd (2).…”

“…The system M (PO ) }M (PO ) }xH O has also been extensively studied. For example, the nickel compounds A Ni(PO ) , with A"Ba, Sr, were investigated because of their potential magnetic properties (3,4). However, very little work was done on the hydrogen phosphate analogous system.…”
